Qualification Description

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety reflects the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others. This qualification would suit an WHS officer in a full-time dedicated role who works under the supervision of an WHS Coordinator or WHS Manager.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to assist with providing advice about the legislative duties, rights and obligations of individuals and parties prescribed in work health and safety (WHS) laws. It includes identification of WHS legislation, duties, rights and obligations and the necessary actions to ensure compliance in the workplace.

 

BSBWHS403A Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the implementation and maintenance of work health and safety (WHS) consultation and participation processes in the workplace as part of a systematic approach to managing WHS.

 

BSBWHS404A Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to identifying work health and safety (WHS) hazards; assessing WHS risks; and developing, implementing and evaluating risk controls appropriate to own job role and work area.

 

BSBWHS405A Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the implementation and maintenance of a work health and safety management system (WHSMS) as it applies to own work area and job role.

BSBCMM401A Make a presentation

This unit covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience.

 

BSBPMG522A Undertake project work

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. This unit addresses the management of projects, including developing a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project, and reviewing the project to identify lessons learned for application to future projects.

BSBMGT401A Show leadership in the workplace

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work with teams and individuals,

their standard of conduct and the initiative they take in influencing others. At this level, work will normally be

carried out within routine and non routine methods and procedures which require the exercise of some discretion

and judgement.

 

BSBMGT403A Implement continuous improvement

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement the organisation’s

continuous improvement systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on using systems and strategies to actively

encourage the team to participate in the process, monitoring and reviewing performance, and identifying

opportunities for further improvements.

 

BSBWRT401A Write complex documents

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan documents, draft text, prepare final text and produce documents of some complexity.
